Well, it sounds like a congratulations is in order. I'm sending you tons of virtual hugs and well wishes on your engagement. I know that you're currently living on cloud 9 and it has not really settled in your mind that you will one day soon be a "Wife". Oh my, how exciting does that sound. Today, I want to share my personal wedding journey that took place on May 26, 2013 at the Surf Club in New Rochelle. The stars were aligned and the sun peaked out just in time for my walk down the aisle. Keep reading as I share what I learned along the way.
What I wish I knew
I wish that I knew how much work it took to execute a wedding. When I jumped in with both feet to plan one of the biggest days of my life, I was not prepared. I wish I knew that it took hours of research and contacting venues to find a venue. I wish I knew that some venues have a house florist that is non-negotiable and their price point is higher most times than finding your own. I wish I knew where to find a wedding gown, the process and timeframe leading up to the day of pick up. Those are just a hand fun of I WISH statements.
What I learned
I learned that things are much easier with a thinking partner. Asking for help or hiring a wedding planner would have saved me tons of time and energy. Although I was capable of planning my own wedding, somethings were just time consuming and tedious.
Asking for help
I totally dropped the ball in this area. Thankfully, my best friend LA stepped in pictured below opted to be the Attendant to the bride instead of a bridesmaid. This decision was made after about fourteen months of planning as a solo act. Thank you GOD, from that moment on, it was smooth sailing. On the day of my wedding, she ensured that all of the ladies were in their green gowns, shoes on and ready for the processional with time to spare. LA also helped my mother get into her gown, Things as I knew went off without a hitch until I found out that the venue was short a table for the bridal party. The next day I realized that the personalized aisle runner that I designed and purchased was never rolled out. See, these are the things a wedding planner would have helped ensure happened for us.
Hiring a wedding planner
During the time of my wedding planning, my daughter was a freshman in college and my son was four weeks old. To put it lightly money wasn't just sitting on the table to spare. This was one of the main reasons I decided to manage and plan my own wedding. Cutting out the additional expense was paramount. Keeping up with invoices, payments and follow-ups was quite the task. Thankfully, I knew how to keep myself organized with phone reminders and folders lol. My attention to detailed helped me manage and execute ten bridesmaids and groomsmen. YIKES!!! Saying that makes me like, can't believe I did that (brushes shoulders off).
Today, as a certified wedding and event planner fast forward eight years later, I offer my couples my virtual office using Aisle Planner. This helps them along during the engagement process to remain calm and organized. Our couples receive discounts on invitations, save the dates and more with minted . If that wasn't enough, the groom and groomsmen don't have to run around looking for a place to rent a tux. L Prestigious Events offers our clients through The Black Tux $20 off their rental.
